Welcome to Lancer Athletics

Welcome to the official home of Gilmour Academy Lancer Athletics. Our program consists of 24 varsity teams, 12 for boys and 12 for girls. We also have two prep hockey teams, including the only girls prep team in the state of Ohio. The program’s total number of teams expands to more than 50 with the inclusion of junior varsity, freshmen and Middle School teams, which allow students in Grades 6 through 12 the opportunity to compete. More than 70 percent of Gilmour students participate in at least one of our sports offerings, with 80 percent of the student-athletes competing in more than one sport.

The goal of Lancer Athletics is to enable our students to develop to their fullest potential, including those who go on to compete at the collegiate level. Our objective is to provide a wholesome and friendly rivalry, while improving playing skills, promoting sportsmanship and establishing new friendships.

Gilmour is a member of the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) at the varsity, junior varsity and freshmen levels. The Lancers become members of the North Coast League (NCL) beginning with the 2018-19 academic year. In the sport of hockey, the varsity boys team competes in the Great Lakes Hockey League (GLHL), the boys prep team is a member of the Midwest Prep Hockey League (MPHL) and the girls prep team participates in the MidAm District.

Mission Statement

The Gilmour Academy Lancer athletic program is designed to further the school mission by providing opportunities to grow intellectually, spiritually, physically and emotionally. In doing so, students will develop individual worth and dignity. The athletic program seeks to provide a broad opportunity of interscholastic activities for both male and female students in Grades 6 through 12.

About Gilmour Academy

Founded in 1946 by the Congregation of Holy Cross, Gilmour Academy takes its name from the second Bishop of Cleveland, Right Reverend Richard. Gilmour is situated on the former Cedar Hill Farm, located on 144 acres in Gates Mills, Ohio. The School stands proud of its long tradition of commitment to scholarship, leadership, spirituality and service. Forever forward-thinking and global in outlook while remaining reflective of Catholic tradition, Gilmour’s mission is rooted in the words of Holy Cross founder Father Basil Moreau, C.S.C.: “We shall always place education side by side with instruction; the mind will not be cultivated at the expense of the heart.” This duality of mission has inspired the education of generations of Gilmour students. As an independent, Catholic, coeducational college preparatory day and boarding school, Gilmour offers a Montessori program (18 months-Kindergarten), Lower School (grades 1-6), Middle School (grades 7-8) and Upper School (grades 9-12)
