Jay Fowler '00 is in his 14th season as a coach with the Gilmour Academy baseball program with the 2018-19 school year – his 10th as the head coach where he helped lead the Lancers to back-to-back district championships and regional appearances in 2014 and 2015. He first joined the staff as an assistant in 2005-06 and held that role for four seasons before taking over the reins of the program in 2010.

Fowler’s relationship with Gilmour however, extends well beyond his coaching venture with the baseball program. This year marks his ninth year as an employee of the school. He began his employment as a history teacher in the Middle School for four years before transitioning to the Lower School. Currently, he is the associate director of the Lower School, a K-6 academic leader and the Grades 5 and 6 social studies instructor. Fowler also spent eight years as an assistant coach with the boys basketball program.

Additionally, Fowler attended Gilmour for four years, racking up nine varsity letters for the Lancers - four in baseball, three in basketball and one each in soccer and cross country. He was the team captain in both basketball and baseball, while earning All-Ohio honors in the latter. He continued his playing career at John Carroll University, where as a pitcher and outfielder, he was a team captain for the Blue Streak baseball team.

He has a bachelor’s degree from John Carroll, majoring in communications and history. He also received his teacher licensure from Notre Dame College and holds his Administrative License through the University of Notre Dame. Fowler is married to Gilmour alum Meagan (Urban) Fowler '06, who is the director of student support and the K-12 school psychologist. They have one son, James.
