Brian Minotas '96 is in his sixth season as an assistant coach with the Gilmour golf program, serving his fifth as the head coach of the junior varsity team. He is also in his 12th year as an assistant with the Lancer boys basketball coaching staff – his ninth as a varsity assistant, following three years as the head junior varsity coach. Additionally, he served one year as an assistant coach with the Lancer boys lacrosse program when the varsity team earned state runners-up status. Prior to Gilmour, he was a boys basketball junior varsity head coach and varsity assistant from 2011-05 at Beachwood High School, as well as a two-year varsity head coach and two-year assistant with the Bison boys lacrosse program.
A graduate of Gilmour Academy, Minotas was a three-year letter winner in the sport of basketball, earning All-Ohio recognition as a forward/center. He also earned three letters in track with three consecutive state championship appearances in the 4x400 and 4x800-meter relays. Minotas’ accomplishments led to his induction into the Gilmour Academy Athletic Hall of Fame.
Minotas has a bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology with a minor in coaching from Ohio University and a teaching certificate in physical education from John Carroll University. He has a master’s degree in health, physical education and recreation from Emporia State University. He currently resides in Willoughby, Ohio, with his wife of 12 years, Lisa, and their three children, Madison (11), Gianna (9) and Braden (6). Minotas is employed by Gilmour as a Lower School athletic coordinator, as well as a first and second grade math and science teacher.
