This past weekend, the Varsity A boys hockey team competed in the 19th Annual Brother James Memorial Tournament, which was held in the Gilmour Academy Ice Arena. The Lancers went 2-0-2, defeating Baldwin High School (Pa.) 6-0 and Team Indiana 4-2. Given the format of the tournament, a winner must be determined each game. Therefore, the team played special overtime rules in the games that ended in ties. Gilmour lost to Upper Arlington High School in double overtime 1-0, in a two-on-two, full-ice format and to Orchard Park (N.Y.) 3-2, in triple overtime in a one-on-one full-ice format. The games remain as ties on the team's overall schedule, however, since the OT periods were strictly played for seeding purposes.

"I am very pleased with how we played coming off of a 10-day break," said head coach John Malloy. "We had some good jump in our step and needed it as we were playing very good competition that had played continuously throughout our break."

Lancer captain Bryce Hofstrom '20 was named the Brother Robert Lavelle Sportsmanship Award winner for the tournament.

"Bryce plays hard every shift and yet he is a consummate sportsman," said Malloy. "He rarely takes penalties even though he plays very physical. His checking is tough and hard but very clean and he never retaliates. As one of our captains, he sets a perfect example of how hockey should be played and how hockey players should hold themselves, off and on the ice."
