The Gilmour Academy hockey program held their senior recognition ceremony for 18 varsity members on Friday, January 15. The event honoring the senior members of the squad was held during the varsity team's contest against Hudson High School.
In between the first and second period, the Lancer hockey community cheered on seniors Colin Bauman '21, Robby Belknap '21, JD Fitzgerald '21, Andrew Harrington '21, Rick Hughes '21, Everett Hunter '21, John Kohanski '21, Nick Kolar '21, Matthew Lombard '21, Zach Mangel '21, Geno Oprisiu '21, Kessel Richards '21, Joe Roddy '21, Tate Simpson '21, Jack Starr '21, Frankie Valenti '21, Alex Young '21 and their parents on the ice, as they were each recognized for their many accomplishments throughout their Gilmour hockey careers.
Varsity A Head Coach John Malloy had the chance to reflect on his experiences with the varsity hockey class of 2021.
"This 20-21 group of seniors is a great example of our Gilmour community as a whole. We have GA lifers, younger siblings, some who came as middle schoolers, others who came as freshmen, a few who came during their high school career and even one who is here for his senior year. Despite when they arrived, they all share the common love of being a Lancer and they represent our school on the varsity high school level with pride and commitment. It is an honor to be their coach," said Malloy.
The Lancers defeated the Explorers 5-0 on Senior Day. Richards and Starr both scored two goals for the Lancers, and Brennan O'Neill '22 added one against Hudson.
Gilmour's Varsity A team, currently ranked third in the Ohio High School Hockey Coaches Poll, travels to compete against Shaker Heights next on Saturday, January 23 at 7:15 p.m.
