The Gilmour Academy boys prep hockey team posted a come-from-behind victory on Senior Night, part of a perfect 3-0 effort for the Lancers this past weekend.
Playing host to the Pittsburgh Predators 18-U squad on Senior Night, the Lancers found themselves trailing at both the first and second intermissions.
The Predators owned a 3-1 lead after two periods, with Ethan Henry '21 having the lone score for the hosts at that point. However, Gilmour came out firing on all cylinders in the third as Tanyon Bajzer '21 and Gavin Dach '21 each scored within the opening two minutes to level the score, 3-3.
After 12 minutes without a goal, the outcome still hung in the balance.
Nathan Dowling '22 would prove to be the hero for the Lancers, finding the net with about three minutes left in regulation. He took advantage of a misfired clearance attempt by the Predators, gathering the puck and firing a slap shot from the top of the left circle to provide what proved to be the game-winning goal. Gilmour added an empty-net tally late to set the final margin at 5-3.
In Gilmour's previous two-game series with the Predators, they won the opening game but were forced to settle for a split after losing the second matchup. However, the Lancers used a prolific offensive attack to ensure that would not happen again.
Gilmour scored twice in the final 90 seconds of the opening period to take a 2-1 lead after one, as Dowling's power-play goal got GA on the board. A dominating second period, in which Gilmour outscored the Predators 4-0, effectively put the game away. The highlight of the frame may have been Dominic Cassillo's '21 nifty no-look pass to Henry, who fired a wrist shot into the upper netting. Gilmour went on to post a 7-3 victory over the Predators to sweep the weekend series.
Gilmour wasn't finished yet, though. The Lancers completed their weekend with a matchup against Team Alaska 18-U at the Covelli Center in Youngstown, Ohio.
Gilmour would come away with a 4-0 victory against Team Alaska as Charles Tuggey '21 scored twice. Brady Klemmensen and Luke Robertson '21 each added a goal while Nicholas Larrabee '21 had 24 saves in the cage to earn the shutout.
With the 3-0 weekend, Gilmour finished its regular-season by winning seven of its final eight games.
After Gilmour's win Friday night, the program honored 16 seniors in an on-ice ceremony. The seniors honored for their contributions to the Lancer program were: Tanyon Bajzer, Dominic Cassillo, Gavin Dach, Dylan Dekoe, Thomas Delisle, Aurelio De Rose, Noah Gaudette, Kaiden Hafele, Ethan Henry, Brady Klemmensen, Nicholas Larrabee, Landon Peterson, Aidan Petropoulos, Luke Robertson, Timothy Treadway and Charles Tuggey.
