John Malloy has been a mainstay with the Gilmour Academy hockey program since 1998 serving as the hockey director. He took on the additional role of head coach of the Varsity A boys hockey team in 2005 and has continued coaching that program ever since, leading the team to Division I State Runner-Up honors in 2008 and a trip to the Final Four in 2011. He was inducted into the Lancers Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016 for his dedication and commitment to the hockey program.

He previously served as the boys prep hockey head coach from 1998-2004 and the junior varsity golf head coach from 2007-10. Malloy is a long-time advocate of hockey, having founded the Midwest Prep Hockey League, as well as being a co-founder of the new Great Lakes Hockey League (GLHL), which Gilmour became a part of in its inaugural 2013-14 season. 
Prior to Gilmour, Malloy was the head varsity coach at Cleveland Heights High School (1982-1995) and directed the team to five city championships, four Final Four appearances, one state runner-up finish and a state championship. He also served as the head coach at Rocky River High School (1995-97) when the varsity team was the Baron Cup champions.
 
Malloy was a four-year hockey player at Miami University and was a team captain for the RedHawks’ inaugural varsity season. His name is written in the record books on several occasions, including for Most Assists in a Period (5), Most Assists in a Game (6), Most Assists in a Season (52) and Most Points in a Period (5). He ranks fourth among all-time leaders for Most Points in a Season (68) and is 38th among members of the 100-Point Club with 111. He earned a bachelor’s degree in education and went on to earn a master’s degree in education, also from Miami.
The Cincinnati, Ohio, native currently resides in Solon and has two children, one of which, John Tyler, is a Gilmour graduate.
