The future of the Lancer high school girls basketball program is very bright given the young talent on the Middle School girls basketball team. With the team's most recent win against Lippman, the Lancers have won eight games in a row to improve to 8-1 on the season. The team's only loss was a 19-13 nail biter in the season opener against Cornerstone Christian, in which Gilmour later avenged with a win on the road against the Patriots this month.
GA's roster is small with just eight players as Julia Gainar '24 (pictured on the left) returned to action this week after suffering an injury earlier in the season. The players recognize the strengths of each other and are working together to ensure success. The team has three ball handlers that control the game, including Nyla Edwards '27, Ava Gundling '26 and Amy Weybrecht '24 (pictured on the right). The trio is quite dangerous on offense with the ability to score both inside the paint and beyond the arc. On defense, Kenzie Coyne '24 is all over the place frustrating the opponents. With the return of Gainar, who is another strong defender, the Lancers hope to minimize shot attempts of the opponents. Annamarie Wiandt '25 is one of the team's top rebounders. She is tasked with cleaning the glass and shutting down the opposition's post players. Mary Turner '26 and Ellie Zorska '26 are working hard to become dominant in the paint. Their specialty is rebounding and making good outlet passes to key the fast breaks.
Gilmour has a big week ahead as it finishes the final week of the season before heading into the tournament. The team hosts Andrews Osborne on Tuesday in the Lower School gym before taking its talents to the big floor. On February 5, the team hosts Ruffing Montessori at 4:30 p.m. in the Athletic Center's Lancer Gymnasium. Admission is free to all games.
