Gilmour Academy swimming delivers a dominant performance at the All-Catholic Swim Meet

GATES MILLS, Ohio — Gilmour Academy swimming delivered a dominant performance at the All-Catholic Swim Meet on Monday Dec. 29, capturing the boys team championship and finishing fourth on the girls side behind a series of wins and podium finishes.

The Gilmour boys scored 494 points to win the title, highlighted by victories in three relays and multiple individual events. PJ Koerwitz '26 led the way with wins in the 100-yard freestyle (48.72) and as part of the winning 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays. Koerwitz joined Colton Cutwright '28, Luke Woodhouse '28 and Andrew Varanese '27 to take first in the 200 freestyle relay in 1 minute, 30.13, then teamed with Ryan Panzica, Varanese and Cutwright to close the meet with a victory in the 400 freestyle relay (3:24.26).

Woodhouse also claimed an individual title in the 100 breaststroke, touching first in 1:02.79. Varanese added a runner-up finish in the 500 freestyle (5:06.39), while Panzica placed second in the 200 freestyle and seventh in the 500. Braden Minotas contributed a second-place finish in the 200 individual medley, and Conor Tietjen placed third in the 100 butterfly.

On the girls side, Gilmour finished fourth overall with 285 points, led by a strong relay contingent and several top-three individual finishes. The Lancers opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay as Mikaela Iskra '27, Isabela Jimenez '29, Lorelai Kaufman '28 and Elizabeth Covington '26 posted a winning time of 1:58.00.

Iskra also finished second in the 500 freestyle (5:42.22) and anchored the second-place 200 freestyle relay team alongside Evelyn Myers '28, Kaufman and Covington. That same quartet later won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:48.57.

Covington placed third in the 100 freestyle, while Myers finished second in the 50 freestyle and fourth in the 100 freestyle. Kaufman added a second-place finish in the 100 breaststroke, and Jimenez placed third in that event while also finishing fourth in the 200 individual medley.

Lauren Malbasa '29 recorded two top-eight finishes for Gilmour, placing eighth in the 200 freestyle and seventh in the 500 freestyle.
